Employment and educational services among the urban youth of Venezuela

Equipo de Formación, Información y Publicaciones (EFIP) is a private, non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in 1972.

EFIP would improve living standards of approximately 450 low-income youths in the Municipality of San Francisco de Zulia through job training and placement.  EFIP would train youths in the practice and theory of a variety of trades, ranging from metal working to air conditioner repair, whilst also placing youths, between the ages of 16 and 24, in apprenticeships in their chosen field.

This 3-year project would build on the 5-year presence of EFIP in the Maracaibo area.  The selected youth would work in the field of his/her choice and would be trained by a micro-entrepreneur for a term of no more than six months.  At the end of the apprenticeship period, the apprentice would have acquired the skills to be employed at any workshop in that field.  In addition to this work, each apprentice would be enrolled in a “formal” schooling curriculum geared to provide lessons in writing and mathematics, whose deficiency could hinder his/her professional growth
