Health Care for Mothers and Young Children in Guatemala

According to the report analysis, this project was “especially suited to deal with the problems Guatemala faces today. It combined the focus on basic health care for mothers and small children with mobilization of communities around improving nutrition, giving attention to children and practicing preventive health care. Besides providing medical care, it promoted capacity building among volunteers so as to disseminate efficient practices that might improve the quality of life. Thus, it created a basis to get more out of the insufficient resources available.”

Three relevant issues were targeted by this project:

·        health care for children under four years of age;

·        reproductive health attention for women;

medical services for the population in general.
