Fostering
Local Development in Argentina Following
the trend of government decentralization in Argentina in the 1980īs and
1990īs, certain municipalities were not fully geared to deal with the new
tasks assigned to them, so both capacity building as well as institutional
reform were needed to help local governments meet their new
responsibilities. In this
sense, the project funded by the IAF intended to: a)
provide capacity building to improve local government b)
enhance information systems as a tool for local development c)
promote innovative socio-economic development initiatives at the local
level, especially sanitation and housing
